Export Sales Highlights

This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period May 25-31, 2018.

Wheat:  Net sales reductions for 2017/2018, which ended May 31, totaled 19,400 MT.  Increases were reported for Haiti (9,900 MT, switched from the French West Indies), unknown destinations (8,300 MT), Venezuela (6,000 MT, switched from the Dominican Republic), Mexico (5,900 MT, including decreases of 3,900 MT), and Malaysia (3,300 MT).  Reductions were reported for Nigeria (30,400 MT), the French West Indies (9,000 MT), El Salvador (8,300 MT), and the Dominican Republic (4,800 MT).  A total of 1,304,700 MT in sales were carried over to the 2018/2019 marketing year.  For 2018/2019 net sales of 250,900 MT were reported for unknown destinations (103,500 MT), the Philippines (51,000 MT), Mexico (30,900 MT), and Brazil (30,000 MT).  Exports of 231,000 MT were down 48 percent from the previous week and 40 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were to Mexico (68,600 MT), Malaysia (34,300 MT), Japan (31,900 MT), the Dominican Republic (25,700 MT), and Nigeria (21,600 MT).  Accumulated exports in 2017/2018 totaled 22,419,200 MT, down 15 percent from the prior year’s total of 26,512,800 MT.

Corn:  Net sales of 838,600 MT for 2017/2018 were down 16 percent from the previous week and 5 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (247,500 MT, including 32,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 13,200 MT), Vietnam (136,800 MT, including 65,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 1,100 MT), Colombia (85,400 MT, including 20,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 2,600 MT), Saudi Arabia (69,900 MT, including 65,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), and Japan (67,200 MT, including decreases of 3,200 MT).  Reductions were primarily for unknown destinations (164,400 MT) and France (15,000 MT).  For 2018/2019, net sales of 418,300 MT were reported for unknown destinations (203,200), Japan (60,000 MT), Vietnam (60,000 MT), and Mexico (45,000 MT).  Exports of 1,448,500 MT were down 24 percent from the previous week and 14 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were primarily to Mexico (286,800 MT), Japan (279,600 MT), Colombia (140,400 MT), Vietnam (137,400 MT), and South Korea (136,500 MT).

Optional Origin Sales:  For 2017/2018, options were exercised to export 65,000 MT to Vietnam from the United States.  Options were exercised to export 50,000 MT to unknown destinations from other than the United States.  The current optional origin outstanding balance of 487,000 MT is for South Korea (276,000 MT), unknown destinations (91,000 MT), Saudi Arabia (70,000 MT), and Egypt (50,000 MT).  For 2018/2019, new optional origin sales of 70,000 MT were reported for Saudi Arabia.

Export Adjustments:  Accumulated exports of corn to Japan were adjusted down 2,791 MT for week ending May 10th.  This shipment was reported twice and is corrected in this week’s report.

Barley:  There were no sales or exports for the 2017/2018 marketing year, which ended May 31.  A total of 1,200 MT in sales were carried over to the 2018/2019 marketing year. Accumulated exports in 2017/2018 were 31,300 MT, up 23 percent from the prior year’s total of 25,400 MT.

Sorghum:  Net sales of 11,900 MT for 2017/2018 were reported for unknown destinations (10,900 MT) and China (1,000 MT).  Exports of 4,400 MT were down 94 percent from the previous week and 95 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destination was Taiwan.

Rice:  Net sales of 146,200 MT for 2017/2018–a marketing-year high–were up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (123,900 MT, including decreases of 9,600 MT and late reporting of 93,500 MT), Haiti (15,000 MT, including decreases of 300 MT), Honduras (5,000 MT), Canada (1,600 MT), and Colombia (600 MT).  Reductions were reported for Jordan (1,500 MT).  For 2018/2019, net sales of 15,000 MT were reported for Mexico (all late reporting).  Exports of 208,400 MT–a marketing-year high–were up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were Mexico (134,600 MT, including 84,000 MT late reporting), Haiti (30,500 MT), Colombia (28,800 MT), Guatemala (8,000 MT), and Canada (1,900 MT).

Soybeans:  Net sales of 164,800 MT for 2017/2018 were down 40 percent from the previous week and 5 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for the Netherlands (105,000 MT, including 80,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 300 MT), Mexico (31,900 MT, including decreases of 11,800 MT), Colombia (21,600 MT, including 15,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 500 MT), Indonesia (16,900 MT, including decreases of 1,100 MT), and Japan (16,400 MT, including decreases of 100 MT).  Reductions were reported for China (39,100 MT) and unknown destinations (19,000 MT).  For 2018/2019, net sales of 34,700 MT were primarily reported for Malaysia (15,000 MT) and Indonesia (12,000 MT).  Exports of 516,100 MT were down 20 percent from the previous week and 21 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were primarily to China (132,000 MT), the Netherlands (105,000 MT), Mexico (87,300 MT), Egypt (66,000 MT), and Colombia (30,100 MT).

Optional Origin Sales:  For 2017/2018, decreases totaling 165,000 MT were reported for China.  For 2018/2019, new optional origin sales of 165,000 MT were reported for China.  The current optional origin balance of 165,000 MT is for China.

Export for Own Account:  New exports for own account totaling 29,600 MT were reported to Canada.  The current outstanding balance of 41,800 MT is for Canada.

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 131,200 MT for 2017/2018 were down 7 percent from the previous week and 38 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Honduras (32,500 MT, including 7,100 MT switched from unknown destinations), Colombia (31,300 MT, including 6,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Venezuela (30,000 MT), and Canada (13,700 MT, including decreases of 600 MT).  Reductions were reported for unknown destinations (29,500 MT).  For 2018/2019, net sales of 3,900 MT were reported for Honduras (3,000 MT) and Guatemala (900 MT).  Exports of 196,700 MT were down 5 percent from the previous week and 23 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were the Dominican Republic (27,000 MT), Colombia (23,100 MT), and Morocco (20,500 MT).

Soybean Oil:  Net sales of 10,000 MT for 2017/2018 resulted as increases for Venezuela (18,000 MT, switched from unknown destinations), the Dominican Republic (5,000 MT), and Malaysia (4,000 MT, switched from unknown destinations), were partially offset by reductions for unknown destinations (22,000 MT).  For 2018/2019, net sales of 500 MT were reported for Canada.  Exports of 39,400 MT were down 15 percent from the previous week and 8 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Venezuela (18,000 MT), Nicaragua (4,100 MT), the Dominican Republic (4,000 MT), and Malaysia (4,000 MT).

Cotton:  Net sales of 6,800 running bales for 2017/2018–a marketing-year low–were down 59 percent from the previous week and 93 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for China (26,800 RB, including 3,800 RB switched from Hong Kong and decreases of 9,400 RB), Colombia (4,500 RB,) Vietnam (3,400 RB, including 1,800 RB switched from Taiwan, 900 RB switched from South Korea, and decreases of 2,300 RB), Malaysia (2,000 RB), and Peru (900 RB).   Reductions were primarily reported for Pakistan (8,000 RB), South Korea (6,300 RB), Taiwan (5,400 RB), and Mexico (4,500 RB).  For 2018/2019, net sales of 106,800 RB reported for China (38,700 RB), Bangladesh (21,600 RB), Mexico (18,500 RB), and Guatemala (10,800 RB), were partially offset by reductions for Turkey (3,100 RB).  Exports of 576,400 RB–a marketing-year high–were up 54 percent from the previous week and 35 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Vietnam (129,600 RB), Turkey (85,800 RB), Indonesia (82,600 RB), Bangladesh (50,400 RB), and Pakistan (43,100 RB).  Net sales of Pima totaling 13,200 RB for 2017/2018 were down 39 percent from the previous week, but up 90 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were primarily reported for China (8,400 RB) and Hong Kong (2,200 RB).  For 2018/2019, net sales of 14,500 RB reported for China (15,300 RB), were partially offset by reductions for India (900 RB).  Exports of 8,400 RB were down 23 percent from the previous week and 34 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were India (5,600 RB), Italy (900 RB), and Egypt (700 RB).

Optional Origin Sales:  For 2017/2018, the current optional origin outstanding balance is 8,400 RB, all South Korea.

Exports for Own Account:  The current outstanding balance of 15,600 RB is for Vietnam (6,200 RB), Indonesia (5,000 RB), China (3,900 RB), and Bangladesh (500 RB).

Hides and Skins: Net sales of 510,200 pieces reported for 2018 were down 13 percent from the previous week, but up 15 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales totaling 511,000 were primarily for China (336,400 pieces, including decreases of 3,000 pieces), South Korea (77,500 pieces, including decreases of 800 pieces), Thailand (48,400 pieces, including decreases of 3,000 pieces), Mexico (24,800 pieces, including decreases of 9,800 pieces), and Japan (12,800 pieces, including decreases of 100 pieces).  Reductions were reported for Hong Kong (2,100 pieces).  Exports of 400,200 pieces reported for 2018 were up 18 percent from the previous week, but down 1 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 393,500 pieces were primarily to China (198,300 pieces), South Korea (70,900 pieces), Thailand (61,400 pieces), Mexico (32,800 pieces), and Taiwan (12,300 pieces).

Net sales of 230,700 wet blues for 2018 were down 7 percent from the previous week, but up 20 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for China (108,600 unsplit and 100 grain splits), Italy (20,300 grain splits and 20,200 unsplit), Thailand (26,900 grain splits and 12,100 unsplit), and Vietnam (31,000 unsplit).  Reductions were reported for the Dominican Republic (7,800 grain splits) and Brazil (2,500 grain splits).  Exports of 189,800 wet blues for 2018 were up 10 percent from the previous week and 8 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Italy (79,800 unsplit and 1,800 grain splits), China (48,200 unsplit), Vietnam (30,200 unsplit), and Thailand (11,600 unsplit and 5,600 grain splits).  Net sales splits totaling 3,282,600 pounds for 2018–a marketing-year high–were up 30 percent from the previous week and up noticeably from the prior 4-week average.  The destination was Vietnam.  Exports of 658,200 pounds were down 45 percent from the previous week and 34 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were Vietnam (608,200 pounds) and China (50,000 pounds).

Beef: Net sales of 15,600 MT for 2018 were down 50 percent from the previous week and 2 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were primarily for South Korea (7,400 MT, including decreases of 400 MT), Japan (3,700 MT, including decreases of 2,000 MT), Canada (1,700 MT, including decreases of 100 MT), Mexico (900 MT, including decreases 100 MT), and Hong Kong (600 MT, including decreases of 200 MT).  Reductions were reported for Chile (100 MT).  Exports of 14,200 MT were down 23 percent from the previous week and 16 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (4,300 MT), South Korea (3,800 MT), Mexico (1,600 MT), Canada (1,300 MT), and Taiwan (1,000 MT).

Pork: Net sales of 8,600 MT for 2018–a marketing-year low–were down 60 percent from the previous week and 57 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (2,300 MT), Japan (1,600 MT), Canada (1,100 MT), Colombia (1,100 MT), and the Philippines (600 MT).  Exports of 19,300 MT were down 7 percent from the previous week and 15 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (7,600 MT), Japan (3,200 MT), South Korea (2,500 MT), Canada (1,700 MT), and Hong Kong (1,100 MT).
